Product Description

A vibrant young Laphroaig whose maturation has been accelerated by ageing in quarter casks. This shows soft sweetness and a velvety feel when first tasted, then the intense peatiness so unique to Laphroaig comes bursting through. A terrific whisky and great value.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Dr. Whisky

    • Seductive smells. Ripe, new-make barley sweetness. A barbecue. A flower. A sooty chimney. A horse. A can of condensed milk. A slice of apple and a piece of Gouda. An amazingly tactile nose, if that makes sense; the aromas seem to make physical contact, they touch me.

Oak. Fruit. Grandparents' musty apartments. Soft impact that is very sensual and easy at the higher-than-normal abv%. Toffee and stubbed cigarettes. Nutty cheesiness. Slow arrival of a huge peaty impact and a cloud of smoke. Smoky finish with biscuity chewiness hanging around.

SUMMARY: An absolute treat to drink. Full-on and not for every mood, but hearty as a good stew. A sweeter, softer, friendlier Laphroaig that still manages to fill every corner of the house of your senses with the medicinal peatiness in ways that only Laphroaig can. And should. And does.

    • Nose

Powerful smoke, sweet malt, wet turf, coal. Develops chocolate & cinnamon.

    • Palate

Full-bodied, rich and mouth-coating. Delicious sweet gristy malt and rich peat, woodsmoke. The coal appears mid-palate.

    • Finish

Very long, sweet and smoky, with the coal lingering longest.

    • Comment

A belter. Denser and deeper than the 10 yr-old. Very more-ish.

DANG! Something has definitely changed, before 2025 it seemed deeper, sweeter and more caramel, honey and hay on the palate and a minerality that I would describe as sea salt is nearly gone, it seems more harsh, just less flavourful and less mature… it is Smokey but even that isn’t the same.. used to be my old favourite by far, now it may be my fave but only by a little. Will be looking around now for something else that may become a new favourite. I miss the old batches.

This is an incredible drink, with the most pungent of smokes! When you open the bottle you can smell strong petroleum odours from across the room. It’s like drinking from a Jerry can and is simply divine. I would say the whisky exchange smoke scale of 4 for the AC and 5 for the original laphroiag makes no sense as the QC has twice the aroma. It also dwarfs Ardbeg in terms powerful smokiness. It’s a great whisky with a very addictive flavour and being a fan of strong flavours and aroma this one hits the spot for me.

This used to be one of my absolute favorites. Quarter Cask can and should be a great whisky experience, especially for the price. But it has changed. Sure, a bit of batch variance is par for the course, but the Quarter Cask I've been having lately seems like a different product to me. It seems younger, harsher, and less flavourful. Simpler. This one used to be both more enjoyable, friendlier, and more interesting. I'm quite disappointed that they would release it the way it is now. It says a lot about the distillery and the brand IMO. I think it will be a while before I buy something from Laphroaig again.

Fresh hot tarmac on the approach, with a lasting lick of honey. Will that do? Hope that doesn't sound like I'm showing off. Pure pleasure.
